 Frequently Asked Questions🤔

  • Most personal finance courses teach students about money. Ours lets them experience it. Through hands-on lessons and real-life decision-making, students don’t just learn financial concepts—they live them. Each choice they make shows how today’s decisions shape tomorrow’s reality. It’s not theory, it’s practice—and that’s what makes it stick. • Before Personal Finance is best for ages 8–13. It includes 10 lessons that introduce key money concepts in a fun, approachable way kids can explore alongside a parent.

Beyond Personal Finance is designed for ages 13 and up, with 20 lessons that take students deeper into real-world decision-making — a self-paced simulation where teens experience the costs and consequences of adult life while earning a full credit in personal finance. Use this short evaluation to confirm your student has the prerequisite math skills to be successful in the program: Math Assessment. Use this file to check the answers: Assessment Answers.

  • No! The financial concepts are written and explained so that most students and adults can understand them. The goal of this class is not to make a Financial Consultant out of your student. Rather, the goal is to open his/her eyes to the costly choices ahead of him/her and help him/her make the connection between his/her current choices and the future financial consequences.

  • No need to print your own materials, we have everything you need! Upon purchase, you will receive a 321 page, full-color Student Workbook to use while watching the pre-recorded teaching videos. In addition, you will receive access to a Teacher and Student Portal that contain the videos, homework links and additional guidance needed to complete the course. Take a peek inside the workbook HERE. Watch a snippet from an instructional video HERE.

  • No, Before Personal Finance doesn’t include videos. It’s intentionally designed to be simpler and less intensive than our teen program — a hands-on introduction to money concepts that parents and kids can work through together without extra screens or complexity. Take a peek inside the workbook HERE.

  • BEFORE PERSONAL FINANCE

Before Personal Finance includes 10 lessons designed for ages 8–13. Each lesson takes up to two hours to complete, but it’s flexible — the four parts (teaching, activity, budget preparation, and quiz) can easily be split into shorter sessions to fit your schedule.

There are no videos — just hands-on workbook lessons that make learning about money fun, engaging, and easy to understand. It’s the perfect foundation before moving on to Beyond Personal Finance.

    BEYOND PERSONAL FINANCE

Beyond Personal Finance includes 20 lessons that guide teens through a realistic financial simulation where their choices shape their future. Each lesson follows this structure (for a full Scope and Sequence go HERE):

    1. Parent/Teacher Prep (under 5 minutes): Watch a short video overview of the lesson and learn how to connect it to your own real-world experience.

    2. Student Instruction (20–30 minutes): The student (and parent/teacher, if desired) watches the teaching video where concepts are explained and assignments introduced.

    3. Hands-On Budget Work (20–60 minutes): The student makes choices and enters their numbers into the spreadsheet.

    4. Review (5 minutes): The parent/teacher checks the work — especially those tricky tax numbers students never believe are real!

While these are the official time guidelines, most families find the real learning happens in the conversations that follow:

“Wow, I never knew how much ___ cost!”
    “I couldn’t afford ___ because I spent too much on ___ earlier!”

That kind of real-world reflection is what makes our products both memorable and transformative.

  • Both Beyond Personal Finance and Before Personal Finance are designed to be administered by a teacher or parent. But don’t worry, we give parents and teachers the tools they need to monitor progress and celebrate student learning.

Our company does not provide grading services at this time.

In Beyond Personal Finance, the Teacher Portal includes grading guidance. The three Lesson Checkpoints are self-graded, and for those using the program in a group setting, a Gradebook is available in the Group Leader Portal to help track student progress.

In Before Personal Finance, grading guidance is provided in the Teacher Corner at the start of each lesson, and the workbook includes a built-in Gradebook to easily record quiz and activity scores.

  • Absolutely! That’s part of the learning experience — and, thankfully, this is the one time going into debt doesn’t hurt. 😉

For Before Personal Finance, each of the 10 lessons includes “Do Over” pages, giving students the same opportunity to go back, rethink their choices, and see how different decisions lead to different outcomes.

As students progress from age 22 to 42 in Beyond Personal Finance, they’ll make many choices — and some might not be so wise. But don’t worry, there are several ways to course-correct:

    1. Fix a negative budget: If a choice leads to a negative balance, students can adjust that decision to bring their budget back into the black.

    2. Revisit earlier decisions: Sometimes a choice doesn’t cause immediate debt but limits future spending power. In that case, students can go back to the earlier lesson and make a new selection.

    3. Start fresh: With 365-day access, students can repeat the entire 22–42 experience as many times as they want, testing different careers and lifestyles to see how their decisions impact their future.

If only real life were this easy!

  • Debt can be risky, which is why we intentionally let students experience it in a safe environment. Using student loans or car loans in their “future life” gives them a firsthand understanding of the long-term effects these choices can have. The goal is for students to see the real consequences and learn how to make smarter financial decisions before they face them in real life.
